Subject: [CR] Advice wanted on 50's French Randonneur

A couple of weeks ago I sought advice on correct bits for a 1954 Duravia, but the same advice could apply to any 50's French randonneur.

I've sorted out the hubs, cranks, bars and stem, brakes and some other bits, but I'd still like some input.

Would a Stronglight P3 headset be old enough for 1954?

What 700C clincher rims would be correct, hopefully some I might actually be able to find?

Were the TA pedals around in 1954, or should I go with Lyotard Berthets?

The placing of the eyelet on my chainstay seems to require an RD spring for the Simplex Rigidex 35 RD significantly longer than the Simplex or Cyclo springs I have seen. Was it common to have to customize spring length to the frame? How was this best achieved?

What chains were correct on a 50's French randonneur? Did French bikes commonly use the English made Renold chain?
