Locknuts on older Campy rear hubs were indeed 18mm, and changed to 17mm, maybe in the late 50s or early 60s? If the nut is Campagnolo, it will have the "CAMP xx" stamp on the inside face, where "xx" are two digits that represent the last two digits of the year the nut was produced. Hence ... CAMP 55, for example, means it is a 1955 locknut.

Hi,

I recently purchased a used Campy Record large flange track hub with different wrench size locknuts - 17mm on one side and 18mm on the other. Apart from different wrench sizes, the locknuts look pretty much identical - dark gray serrated. From some Campagnolo diagrams on the net I'm assuming one of those nuts (18mm?) is not correct. While in any case this is a very very minor "issue" (if it can be called that at all), I'd like to know whether there could be any point in those locknuts having different wrench sizes. Thanks.
