Hi Tom & all:

The recession has certainly negatively impacted my shop, cycles de ORO Inc., but the cost of hosting the Classic Rendezvous is mostly covered by the 7 great banner sponsors, Richards Sachs Cycles, Cyclart, Bicycle Classics, CampyOldy.com, Rene Herse Bicycles, Ciclismo Classico and Blufrecia.com.

The CR site uses "shared hosting" wherein we receive a (big) chunk of space on a hard drive at some remote place. Our service is through a huge company, 1and1.com. It has served us well all these years, never "down" and I have the system backed up at home, at work and on a portable 250 gig hard drive.?

Hosting through 1and1.com is incredibly inexpensive but also apparently limited. I have told Morgan that I would host the WoolJersey.com as part of the CR package, but I gather it will not work as he has had it running before.

If I understand things correctly, Morgan's site requires somewhat more technically demanding service, partially due to the programing requirements which allow so many people access for uploading etc., to the site. He has had?his own hard drive and apparently needs that for maintaining the same sort of service you are all used to having in the WoolJersey.com.

Any of you who are aces at all this are welcome to chime in.. (I am just a humble bike shop guy, far from a brain in these things! Ha ha!) ?

Cheers,

Dale

All this talk of Wool Jersey's financial needs and whether Dale might have the space to host such an endeavor seems to beg the question "How is Dale's site doing?" I know the recession has hit at Dale's shop and I wonder how the site he maintains and his expenses hosting this list are doing at this moment? I realize he has a couple of good Sponsors, but I'm sure they are getting clobbered, too. Forgive me, Dale, for asking this question publicly rather than in a private post, but are you going in the hole , too? If so, perhaps we need to figure out a way to make hosting such lists and sites less of a burden.

Should we be sending donations to Dale too? Would a small fee for membership on this list (Perhaps a voluntary one so as not to harm those of us who are between a rock and hard spot right now) be an appropriate thing? I'd like to hear from Dale on this, and then I think it would be good if others chime in with some input on the matter if appropriate.

Again, Dale, I am not trying to put you on the spot, but I do have a concern that maybe we should all be sponsors and that it is not fair to put so much burden on so few shoulders. Especially when it has been so lovingly carried all these years.
