Even though you've taken some liberties with the Grand Record restoration as you and others have noted, I think the end result is quite handsome. Perhaps it is better to not attempt a faithful replication of the original, since the patina of age and use can never be matched. Being somewhat a fan of the old French brands, I seen several high-end Motobecane's listed on the auction site that were advertised as original "time warp" barn finds, but in fact were obviously repainted and re-decaled products of someone's workshop. While reproduction decals are available for these bikes, close inspection reveals several obvious discrepancies from the original. Perhaps that too is intentional.

I recently restored a '62 Peugeot UO8 and purposely chose to use powdercoat and decals of my own design. The end result, while obviously not correct suited my taste and purpose...and, if you saw it before, probably increased its' value.
