Greetings,

Love summer time trips.

When in high school (1977 or 1978) I and a buddy went on a two day trip. Got there and looked at each other. We had tarp, stakes, hammer but who had the tent. Put the tarp over a picnic table.

Food was easy . . . went to a camp store and bought a pack of hotdogs and charcoal. We ate the entire package.

Best part was during the night a raccoon came looking for salt and found it on my friend's ear.

We had never been to our destination and we were armed only with a square of a map tucked into my Cannondale handlebar pack. By choice we stayed to Pennsylvania country lanes and farm roads. It seemed like every turn we made immediately turned up hill.

Yesterday I took that very same bike for a ride. AHHHHHH

Okay, I'm finalizing plans for a bicycle trip. Ten days, starting in Cincinnati September 12th and heading through Greenville, Ft.Recovery, Celina, Van Wert, Defiance, Paulding, and Toledo in Ohio, and Fremont, Angola, Auburn, Fort Wayne, Geneva, and Berne in Indiana. In 30 years of cycling, this will be my first unsupported multi-day bike tour.

Any list members along or near the route who might suggest routes, restaurants, and places to visit? Care to join me for a segment? Warning - I'll be travelling heavy and slow, with frequent stops to take pictures.

Vintage content... riding the '84 Assenmacher equipped with parts from the 1940s and up, and visiting the Bike Museum of America (former Schwinn collection).
