Amazing how the Balilla lever that I put on my Paramount Track bike in 1972 (easy Guys, its a early one which had holes front and rear) Still has the gum hood in perfect condition. Its paired with a Weinmann 500 caliper. I am familiar with 2 lever styles the simple one like mine and another with a QR built it that opened out and to the side. There was a little alloy lever which stuck through the front of the hood. I recall this second type being added to various brake sets as an upgrade. Their center pull caliper featured both arms the same with one reversed to make the pair.

I have now recovered from my Mt Tam/Alpine Loop of yesterday, the Off Topic front derailleur stopped shifting as cable seems to have seized to the BB shell, I think I was to generous with cleaning spray after the Marin Century and did not relubricate this key point which was cable to BB shell(metal to metal) and no housing or anything to protect it. This would never happened with the Old School over the BB guides. One point has now been deducted from the Ron Cooper is God survey. On the other hand one point has been added to the theory that you only need one gear to get anywhere.
