Subject: [CR] 7-Eleven Murray on Ebay

I'm not so sure that it's not a team bike. But I'm pretty certain the year and maker are wrong.

The seattube stickers are arranged oddly for a 7-11 team bike, but the font is actually exactly right. I compared what I could see to the two I have here, and even the small details look good. The U in Murray even has the same awkward transition from the curve to the flat bottom, which makes me think it's got the team vinyl stickers rather than decals.

But the paint scheme is wrong for 85. It's 83-84. The dropouts are done just like my 83 Rossin Murray team bike, and the seatstay tops are the same. Most of the Serottas I've seen had Murray cast into the seatstay tops. The lack of the "s" bend stays and Serotta sticker also make me think it's a Rossin.

I don't know whether Rossin made replicas, but they did make the 7-11 team bikes in 82-83. And there's a pic on http://diabloscott.blogspot.com/2000_04_01_diabloscott_archive.html of one of the Rossins labeled as a Rossin, probably in 82. It also has no number hanger.

So, maybe it is a team bike. Maybe earlier in 83? It wouldn't be the first time a team changed their mind about sticker/decal placement. But.... The pics didn't show enough to be sure, and the dodgy story doesn't help. It's also had loads of parts changed out, which makes it a bit of a project.

All in all though roughly 600 including shipping isn't bad for a decent road bike even if it's not a team bike. The Merckx replicas from later in the 80's usually go for more.

This bike has been described as a "7-Eleven team bike". It is not a team bike. First, it has no number hanger and secondly the seat tube decals are wrong. I challenged the seller about his description and he finally told me that although the original owner said he had purchased it from 7-Eleven, it was a Junior Development bike. The font used for the Murray decal and the arrangement of the letters is all wrong.

Following up on the recent Murray 7-Eleven bikes built by Serotta, there is currently one on eBay, but it apparently has a replaced fork that was not disclosed in the item description.? I confirmed this with the seller, but he failed to post my question nor provide an update to the description (claimed frame was purchased without the fork).

Here's the auction address, or item #320414536866:

I own a Serotta Murray, and it is one fine riding machine (even have a photo of Bobke Roll standing next to the bike).
