If the very early-70's Colnago sold on eBay recently for over 4200 zops ( 180401718652 ) was sold in 1971, doesn't that blow the whole "playing card graphics 'through 72" thing out of the water? It is also interesting to hear the eBay bike described/sold as a "super light" and to see some of the pantographing (notably the chainrings.)

I like the eBay bike, and wasn't that surprised at the final bid. My 72 is strikingly similar in appearance, a great rider (ride it more than even the white Pog) and I'd almost be tempted to part with it for that kind of coin. BUT...the auction is a single datapoint. Still, it supports the notion that the real deal bikes are not "tanking" in values.

When some of us talk about "original Colnago panto" this is what we're referring to, at least as it relates to the early-mid 70's time period. Compare the parts on this bike to the recently created panto occasionally seen on eBay described as "old & original".

What a great looking bike.  I'm glad it wasn't my size.  I would have been tempted to belly up to the bar.

Don't know if you all were following this auction--180401718652--for a nice 71 Colnago with lots of pantographed parts, but it went for over 4k.

There was much discussion a few weeks ago about plunging or tepid values for vintage bikes. This seems quite counter to that view.

Interested in what the Colnago experts think. I loved the bike. Very classy.
