I used Arnold bolt kits back in the day.  The derailleur pivots wore out from wear, but I never had a problem with the stem bolt.  You should use the steel original to tighten the wedge, then unscrew it and replace it with the alloy one, just snugging it up, to keep the wedge were the stele bolt pulled it to.
