Hi Mark, that's a good idea, but the alloy ones I have are a larger diameter, therefore the bolts are not able to mix with one another's wedges.

This seems to be true with a genuine Cinelli 1R alloy expander, and a FT alloy expander.......seemingly they had to increase the thickness of the alloy bolt to be safe.......I have in the past drilled a larger hole in a 1A stem to allow a alloy expander to be installed...............never had bother with my alloy gear pivots wearing though!

I used Arnold bolt kits back in the day. The derailleur pivots wore out from wear, but I never had a problem with the stem bolt. You should use the steel original to tighten the wedge, then unscrew it and replace it with the alloy one, just snugging it up, to keep the wedge were the stele bolt pulled it to.
