Any idea as to WHY those "rapid taper" chainstays did not catch on? What were the drawbacks? Were there other framebuilders who used them?

The pics in that auction seem to be save-able in the most straightforward way, by right clicking and saving image. If you have problems with that I can save and email you the pics, just let me know.
