Subject: [CR] Decal question for the Colnago-scenti (Ed Granger)

My white circa '71 Super has a decal set very similar to Greg's playing card repros, with a minor exceptions: The headtube decal has a blue rather than yellow outline (no fill color, though the clear part of the decal has "yellowed" quite a bit), the chainstay decals are blue, the "Colnago" on the downtube decal is blue, and the club at the end is actually in a double box - a black inner blox and a blue outer box. The blue outer box is lined in black similarly to the headtube oval.

Ed Granger Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA ____________________________________________________________________ "Some of the Colnago playing card style decals you mention appear to be a reproduction set that has been around for some time. I have an early Colnago Super (pre 70s) which (believe it or not) was updated with the then current Colnago decals in 1971, and I also have an original loose set of playing card style decals which are exactly the same as on my bike. There are many areas of difference between the original graphics I have and the ones on Bob Freeman's 1971 Super featured on the CR Colnago site. I recall having seen that same set, like on Bob's Colnago, in different color schemes. Certainly the decal design that followed time wise had two options, one for the Molteni style and the other for everything else. After several decades it is difficult to determine whether a set of graphics is original or not unless you are absolutely certain of the history or can find some original decals that demonstrate basic differences in design which points to non-original decals. I have faithfully reproduced my own new set of the playing card graphics based on the originals I own...(and no clearcoating issues with my ones). Greg Softley Coffs Harbour"
