Well, Dmitry, there are two kinds of folks: those who try to untangle complicated knots, and those who cut them. :-) I had the opposiite problem with my Hetchins: was set up with a Suntour that needed cable housing to activate, but had underbracket guides. So, I replaced the front derailleur. Here's what I'd try: just run the FD cable directly under the bracket, between the stays, and up to the derailleur. Pretty it up with some shrink-wrap or teflon cable inner housing where it goes under the bb, and be done with it. A more sophisticated solution is to get a modern plastic under-bracket cable guide, typically attached with a screw, and just glue it in place.

So, I guess I've clearly identified myself as not being a real purist.., but these approaches have led to good performance and look just fine, if not perfectly original.

I want to set it up with downtube shifters and rear and front derailleurs. I can route the cable to the rear der via the brazed-on guide. For the front though I will have to use a derailleur with a cable stop (I have a suitable Suntour Superbe that has a removable cable stop, or maybe I could find an early Campy NR or GS), with a clamp-on cable stop down on the dt, and a short piece of cable housing between the two. Exactly like shown in this picture:

I should have explained this all in my first post, I apologize for not doing that (hope now I've made it clear enough <g>).

As for filing off the left stop from a 629 - it will work, but won't look as nice because the stops on 629 are, so to say, at 3 and 9 o'clock positions whereas the single stop on 628 is lower (7-8 o'clock), which would put the front cable more in line with the rear as the cables go from the shifters to the BB (hope this explanation makes sense). But yes, in a pinch I could/would use a 629.

Finally, if anybody can suggest a different approach I'd appreciate that too. (E.g. how to route the front cable under the BB which only has a braze-on for the rear, short of brazing on one for the front.)
