Subject: [CR] FS: KOF Hans Schneider (57 cm) complete bike

Dear CR. Listmates:

I am trying to scrounge up some money to buy a MTB to race with my team (Plano Athletic Cycling Club) and to finish restoring my Ed Litton, so I am offering up my 57 cm Hans Schneider, complete, with (sorry, folks) 8 spd. Shimano Dura Ace (this is my commuter/daily driver right now, so it didn't merit the Campy SR group that I purchased for my Ed Litton).

The frameset was built with Columbus steel (Neuron OS tubes for the frame with the exception of a Reynolds Metax stainless steel driveside chainstay) and Henry James lugs, bottom bracket shell, and fork crown. The frame and fork were painted black, with beautiful purple flames (over the black paint and under the clearcoat) that Hans airbrushed on the top tube, downtube, seat tube and lugs. The frameset cost $2,100 a year ago when I bought it new from Hans.

Lttle proof of use can be found on the frame, and whatever proof there is will be touched-up by Hans after the frame is sold and before it's shipped. Again, the bike is built up with 7 spd. era Dura Ace brake levers, with the rest of the Shimano parts (shifters, cables, brakes, hubs, 12-17 straight block Uniglide cassette, 12-21 Uniglide cassette, and 1989 Uniglide hubs) being 8 spd. era Dura Ace stuff with the exception of the seat post, which is only a few years old. All of the parts were either NOS/NIP or in Excellent to VGC condition a couple of weeks ago, and the bike looks just about brand new right now when cleaned up (hey, I do ride the thing). The hubs, for instance, were NOS/NIP when Hans built up a few weeks ago with Sapim DB spokes to brand-new Mavic Reflex CD tubular rims. The tires are brand-new 25c Tufo Elite Ride tubulars. The rest of the parts are new o 45 cm bars, new Cinelli cork handlebar tape, a new 120 mm 3T Mutant stem, a new (and crappy, albeit functionally flawless at the moment) Ritchey Logic headset (I ran out of cash when building up this bike) and a new Sella San Marco Regal Saddle with titanium rails.

If you want a modern daily driver to add to your collection and don't care if it has Shimano on it, the bike could be converted to 10 spd. with a 10 speed right/drive-side downtube shifter, chainrings, cassette, chain and rear derailleur pulleys. If you don't want to rebuild the rear wheel with a 10 speed compatible hub, you will need to modify the hub on the rear wheel to make it work with 10 spd. cassettes, which can be done by http://www.sheldonbrown.com/k7.html#transplant installing a Hyperglide ratchet body that can be ordered online or through your LBS and installed with a special Shimano tool (Model #TL-SH40) that your LBS should have in the repair shop if you don't have this tool lying around in your garage. I personally wouldn't convert the rear hub unless and until the two cassettes wear out, but I live in flatland north Texas and you might need or want a cassette with a bailout gear smaller than a 39x19 or 39x21. If you do want to go 10 spd., I recommend that you just rebuild the rear wheel with a 9 spd. era Dura Ace 7700 hub that will accept 8, 9 and 10 speed cassettes (note that the new Dura Ace 7800 and 7900 hubs WILL NOT ACCEPT 8 AND 9 SPEED CASSETTES).

As built and setup, the measurements of the bike are as follows:

Seat tube: 57 cm (center of the bottom bracket along the seat tube to the center of the top tube)

Top tube: 57 cm (center of the seat tube to the center of the head tube).

Stem: 120 mm (center of the bar clamp to the center of the fork clamp)

Reach: 72.3 cm (center point of spot where saddle rails sit between clamps on the seat post forward to the center of the stem clamp)

Bars: 45 cm (outside to outside)

Cranks: 172.5 (53/39 rings)

Cassettes: 12-19 straight block (a/k/a "corncob") Dura Ace model that's barely been used and a 12-13-14-15-16-17-19-21 Dura Ace model that's NOS/NIP

ST angle: Approximately 72 degrees

HT angle: Approximately 72.5 degrees

BB height: 7.0-7.25 cm (depending on tires)

Asking $1,800 for the bike (including professional packing by Plano Cycling & Fitness) plus actual shipping charges. PayPal only. Pictures available upon request.
