I have a Chater Lea single ring crankset that is missing one of the bolt s that fastens the chainring to the crank arm and a Williams C1000 (?) miss ing two bolts. Gang,I have most certainly seen this topic previously covered on The List , but my search into the archives has been fruitless. My apologies for c overing this road yet again, but I could use some helpful advice from y'a ll before I go and mess somethin' up...I have a set of 4 salmon Scott Matha user brake pads that I would like to install on a set of Campagnolo Nuovo R ecord brakes. While the Scott pads are already in shoes and ready for inst all, I would like to install the pads in the original Campagnolo shoes (c hrome with wheel guides).The problem is, the Scott shoes are "closed" on all four sides. Does one simply use a small screwdriver to pry apart the a lloy shoes/housing and remove the pads from the shoes? It seems that it wi ll be difficult to avoid damage to the pads. Should I pry open more than o ne edge of the shoe? Or just one short edge? See eBay item # 150320188264--1939 Schwinn Paramount, serial #A685. It was listed on eBay about a week ago, not as an auction, but as a "Buy-it-now" item. It ended today with "Buy-it-now" for $4000! Nice orange bike, although missing the nicer Paramount "telephone dial" hubs. It has a little more chrome than most '38/39 Paramounts--head tube and all lugs, fork tips, and track ends. Based on previous pictures that I have of this bike, hubs appear to small flange Schwinn Superior variety. This sale especially gets my interest because I used eBay's "Buy-it-now" to purchase an all-chrome '38 Paramount late this past November.

I'm thinking about getting something that gives me the ability to carry a light load, probably on the front, as well as ability to mount fenders. Don't really want to run a large tire, maybe a 28c. I'm kinda trying to get away from carrying a bag on my back in the 100 degree summer heat.

My concern lies with spending big money on a new randonneuse frame and then finding out that I don't really like the ride. All my bikes have steep angles, short rake and short wheelbases and I've found this to the handling I prefer. I'd be going to the exact opposite with a Randonneuse.

I'm thinking the best idea is to get something used so that I can get back most of my investment if I decide they aren't for me. Anyone have something like this in around a 59-60cm frame? I'd like to be able to fit fenders as well as a rack on the front, maybe mid mount.

I know Cycle Art does some very nice work. I've seen some beautiful restorations/paint jobs from their shop.

They seem pretty insistant on putting their "tatoo" on their re-paints. No disrespect intended but.... not sure they should have signed this one.

Which of the classic bars had the squarest top - a very flat ramp to the shifters. The Cinelli 66 / Campione del Mondo, the 3ttt Competizione with the Merckx bend, the Philippe Professionel (Grand Bois is currently making a clone of the Professionel) or some other model?

I think the Cinelli 65 and the Gimondi bend 3ttt are prettier but I'm much more comfortable with little or no drop to the hoods.

What a strange coincidence. I saw a 1939 Schwinn Paramount track bike yesterday that was all original except someone had used the hubs to make clincher wheels. I assume it orig. had wood tubular rims. It includes a copy of the orig bill of sale ($72) and a copy of the insurance policy the owner took out on it. I asked..........$3000. I didn't get the ser# but it was sold in 1940. The owner is not actively trying to sell it.

Preparing for the 1934 Racing Season.

The original caption reads "The workshop for preparation and development of racing equipment in large bicycle company." Here a technician works on one of the "Olympique" (France) team bikes for the 1934 season. Two frames hang from the ceiling (upper left) - I've included an enlargement of the downtube logo in the insert (upper right). Note the full mud guards and lack of rear brake, although there appears to be a lever clamp beneath the tape on the left side of the handlebars... perhaps this handsome bike is a fixed gear for winter training, rear brake removed for whatever reason? Note also lots of new and used tires hanging from hooks or horizontal board, lots of shiny new aluminum water bottles arranged on top of the cabinet, the pile of new rims in the lower right of the photo, and a copy of "Match l'Intran" on the drafting table (lower right).

The Olympique company fielded professional teams intermittently through the 1920s, 1930s, 19402, and 1950s. Their greatest successes came from Swiss rider Heiri Suter in the mid-1920s.

I am at my bike limit and need to make room for a Jim Redcay Tourer. Hate to let this one go but of all the bikes I own, this is the only one that is just a little small.

For sale is a Colnago Super, seat tube measures 51cm (center to center) and the top tube is 52cm (center to center). The frame has been dated somewhere between a 74-77. The gruppo is campy nuovo record, the cranks, and derailleur all date from 1981, for all I know the rest of the group may also. Components are all in excellent condition, very little marks on the cranks, and the derailleurs are super shiny. One break lever has a decent scratch on it, other then that everything is really clean. The frame is a repaint, not a great one, but not too terrible. Fortunately when it was repainted no one decided to add any braze-ons. Unfortunately there is a small dent to the inner area of the non drive side chain stay. This was caused by a previous owner (foolishly) screwing on a light to the stay. It is about the size of a lentil bean, but looks bigger because of previous owner trying to touch it up with a close, but incorect color. All of this is made very visible in the pictures, link is below
