Stones Cyclery in Alameda was a Schwinn dealer all the way back to the 40s. I was commenting (bitching) to Dennis Stone about these Weinmann rims that came on several Gitanes I acquired at the beginning of the year. He agreed with me and said they came on a lot of Schwinns too.

Back in the day I remember replacing some of these rims. Some of the new replacements were more twisted and out of round than the old "bent" rims! They were a real bear to get round and true.

I think that I remember Schwinn also using some of these Weinmann Alesa rims too:

Dual pivot Weinmann brakes: are you talking about these Weinmann Symetric brakes? I think that they were made in Germany. I first saw them about 1974. I thought that maybe they were made by Altenburger who made a similar brake. They came on some cheap entry level models and never caught on. Besides, the bike boom was ending.
