First I'd like to thank everyone who responded with 40 hole rims that they have to supply. At the present time, none of them match any other 32 hole rim I might have and I'm not in a position to collect more orphans in order to search for an admittedly easier to find 32 hole matching rim. More specifically, I'm looking for a pair of 700c box section clincher rims in silver, preferably with hook beads that look at least like a classic, vintage, fairly lightweight rim in a 32 x 40 hole combination. I would also like to get a 700c, 40 hole CR-18 clincher rim to match a front wheel and rear Sturmey hub I already have. I'll admit to not being able to generally afford the 32 x 40 hole clincher sets that periodically come up on e-bay. I really like the idea of getting a matching new set of 32 x 40 rims from the likes of Velo Orange or Vintage Bicycle Press, but realize that they probably won't be stocking that combination anytime soon, and in the variety of sizes that not just me, but Craig Montgomery is looking for. I'm hoping there may be a groundswell of support for those sizes eventually to make them cost effective for dealers to carry.

I'm looking for 40 hole rims as part of a 32 x 40 hole set for a vintage bike. I'm ok with a modern set, but would like them to match. Harris Cyclery used to stock the venerable CR-18 in 40 holes, but apparently no longer. I'd love to get something like the even nicer rims that Velo Orange and Vintage Bicycle Press sell, not yet available in 40 holes.

Is there a source for a modern 32 x 40 hole set of rims that I might find? Or is there enough need from the vintage community to support having one of those two company's make a special order for 40 holed rims? Please let the group know on list if you'd be willing to purchase a modern, classic style 40 hole rim. I still believe that the 32 x 40 front/rear combination really is a nice idea even if no longer a standard.

Regards, and Happy trails.
