Peter,

Great video! Love the sound track also. Looks like MUCH better conditions that when I rode it last. I saw as you rode right by a few places where on the freezing cold version of this ride we stood on the side of the road freezing our asses off waiting for straggling riders. The shots of riding through the tunnels were very cool. Thanks for that. You must be the one who's shadow looks like a quail riding a bike, right? ;-)

Headcam video of the San Diego Vintage Bike Club and the Far West Milano Bike Club annual L'Alpe d'Baldy Mountain challenge on Sunday October 18, 2009.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfe0IpW-g9M

Eight riders launched themselves from Pioneer Park in Azusa, and headed over to and up Glendora Mountain Road to Mount Baldy Village, and then down to Claremont for a late lunch, and back. The ride was 52 miles, featuring the twenty mile climb up Glendora Mountain/Ridge Road to Cow Saddle at 4,500 feet.

The headcam video shows the handling of the riders' classic bikes but no bike closeups. Sterling Peters said he will post photos so you can see the bikes more closely. Downhill speeds were 30-plus mph on most downhills, and 40-43 mph on the downhill from Mount Baldy Village (with a headwind holding us back from going faster).

Riders included Chuck Schmidt (my aging brain forgets what Chuck was riding), Stephen Bryne (Miyata 1000), Matt Gorski (his "Have Mercian"with low gears). Riders in my riding group shown throughout the headcam video are:

Sterling Peters: long sleeve high-vis yellow jersey, on a Brian Baylis Randy Dugan: white jersey with blue markings, on a 3Rensho Aaron Lipstadt: short sleeve yellow jersey, on a Picchio Special (whom I followed through the downhill tunnels) Rusty: brown jersey with white lettering, on a Rivendell Hillborne Tarantula, dark brown body, on a Hetchins Magnum Bonum Spyder My headcam'ed head in shadow on the road, on a Somec
