Subject: [CR] Re amazing Carlton

Hi list. The story and alleged original paint on the Carlton outed by Charles Andrews seems a little dubious. The thing I am suspicious of is the brazed on cable guides on the bottom bracket shell. I always thought these were a early 70's innovation, and if so are evidence the frame has been painted. I have a couple of British 10 speeds from this approximate era ;and if derailleur cable braze ons are fitted at all, they always seem to be the roller type or a pair of simple outer casing stops on the down tube and R.H. chain stay. {similar to the brake cable stops on the top tube of this bike}. Does anyone on the C.R. list have an original bike from this general {early 1950's}  period fitted with this style of braze on guides?  It is none the less a very nice looking machine, and could provide much riding joy in either it's current updated form or returned to period correct components. Price seems a little steep however.   Greg Lone Langley B.C. Canada
