I believe we had some discussion a couple of years ago to the effect there was a version of the Malthauser pads specifically for Mafac, marked with an "M" I believe as opposed to"W" for Weinamnn and "C" for Campy. I seem to think I've seen at least one pair of the "M" pads. I think there was a rather lively debate in which some maintained the "W" Malthauser pads work fine for Mafac as well as Weinmann, while others maintained only the "M" pads shoud be used for Mafac. With the red Malthauser pads now becoming more rare it's now hard enough to find the "W" pads let alone the elusive "M" pads. So what's the consensus? Can the "W" pads be safely used with original Mafac shoes?

\r?\n> When I was a kid working at Turin
\r?\n> Bicycle Co-op in Chicago in the late
\r?\n> 1970's we had an endless supply of Mafac brake
\r?\n> blocks. I mean boxes and
\r?\n> boxes. The story was that sometime around 1970 when
\r?\n> the guys running the
\r?\n> store were often stoned, someone had ordered 500,000 pieces
\r?\n> instead of 500
\r?\n> he was supposed to have ordered.
\r?\n>
\r?\n> They were pretty hard by the time I was installing them as
\r?\n> replacements in
\r?\n> 1978. We did a lot of toe-ing in.
\r?\n>
