Subject: [CR] was KOF path racers Flying scott auction Now My Path Racer (possible Flying Scott)

My former housemate and good friend won this bike. He's not a list member, nor a vintage bike buff (ok a little bit) but he bought this bike with the intention of building a nice bike for winter commutes to his work place in Philadelphia.  I also have a vintage path racer that I bought from Hillary Stone via ebay a few years ago. The pedigree of the bike is unknown, but is thought to also be a Flying Scott. I rode the bike during bad weather as a courier in Philadelphia for a few years. Photos of the bike can be seen here (the bike is on its way to seeing better days):  http://www.flickr.com/photos/34409296@N02/sets/72157613242898676/

With my retirement from the courier biz this fall I had the bike repainted (and frame-saved) by Bilenky the same maroon color
but without the decals. I figured if it really is a Flying Scott it wouldnt have originally had the "Billy Bilsland" decals seen in the above photos but a more traditional set but maybe not. Bilsland was a pro in the late 60's early 70's. I'll be outfitting the bike with a campy pista bottom bracket, T.A. cranks, Lyotard pedals, Chris King headset (why cant he make them look more vintage/attractive looking?) Mafac Racer brakes and Honjo hammered fenders. As soon as the low flange Phil Wood wheels are finished being built (in the shop now) to my V.O. PBP rims I should be good to go. A mix of the old and new. I still havnt decided on handle bars, either something new, or something old and British. Any suggestions? I'll post pictures when its done.  I have to say that these kind of bikes are really ideal for city riding/commuting. The geometry makes them very comfortable, but still racy and the single
speed is convenient especially in poor weather.  The fenders are imposing when doing maintanace/repairs (especially on the side of the road)  and they are easily bent when locking up your bike, but then again, locking up a nice bike is always problematic.  Isaac SchellBrooklyn NYUSA
