Here's enough to whet appetites:
The US Bicycling Hall of Fame selected Davis CA as its new headquarters earlier this year. The Hall of Fame's collection shipped to Davis this summer; UC Davis' amazing collection of antiques (and some 20th Century bikes, too) will be displayed with that collection.
The City of Davis leased the organization an 8000 square foot, modern building at 303 B Street, in Davis. This is in Davis' Central Park, on the edge of lovely downtown Davis and a couple of blocks from UC Davis. For the past six weeks we've been renovating the interior and adding a serious security system. An initial display should be ready to go next weekend...
...For the 2009 US Bicycling Hall of Fame Induction Dinner on November 7, at UC Davis' Freeborn Hall. If you're interested in attending, email me for details ASAP. (Among this year's class: Nelson Vails.)
That initial display IS NOT, however, our Grand Opening. We'll hold that early next year. This building was not designed to be a museum, and as we'd suspected, our initial renovation work and initial display work keeps turning up additional items we'd like to work on. Although we expect to be open for limited hours through the rest of this year (the better to get visitor feedback and do fine-tuning), we're likely to be randomly cutting off access to some areas to perfect the "infrastructure." Only then will we go for the media splash of a full opening.
In the meantime, we're also soliciting resumes for a professional executive director (again, contact me via email for details) and expect to do the same for a curator as soon as possible.
