The bike in question was made by Ugo De Rosa.

I have seen enough bikes with slowly slipping seats to be wary of seatposts that go in too easily.

It's almost impossible not to mark the seatpost when you insert it. The scratches weren't deep gouges, but Jean-Pierre Praderes' photographs show even the smallest details... so they would have been visible.
