Hopefully I'm not drifting off-topic here, but while I like to see a vintage bike ridden and cared for, the current trend of taking quality lugged steel-framed road bikes and turning them into "fixies" disturbs me. Fixed-gear/flip-flop hub bikes may be suitable for short rides on tracks or in highly urbanized environments, but the whole purpose of multi-geared bicycles is to provide efficient cycling at variable speeds over a variety of terrains. I'm afraid once the current "fixie fad" fades, "modified" (read BUTCHERED) classic steel frames will be consigned to the scrap heap.
