Bob,

I love that Pedali Alpini jersey!! Yes, it was worn in club races and national races. I first saw it in the 1960 Tour of Somerville, worn by Mike Hiltner, and again that year at the Olympic road trials. Hiltner won Somerville and a place on the Olympic team. His riding style was unlike any we had seen on the East coast; long and low, using big gears. Of course I wanted a jersey like his. It had mojo and might give me the power to ride like him.

During my last visit to Peter Johnson's shop, he showed me several Alpini jerseys, and said Jan had considered making repros (Vintage Velos). Like your jersey, Peter's were made by Seregni & Gallazzi. They may have been ordered through Spencer Wolf, who imported Cinellis from Heidi Cinelli.

Back in the 1950s, when I imported Cinelli's, I always dealt with Heidi. Sometime in the early-1960s, I stopped with the bikes and switched to importing clothing and shoes for the New York bike race scene. The jerseys and shorts were made by Seregni & Gallazzi. I once mentioned this brand to Brett Horton, who said he had never heard of it. Now I know I'm not crazy.
