Hi Kevin,

I had a pair of these now very rare 1st gen Superleggiri pedals back in 1972.

I think they came out in 1971, the year I started my carreer in the cycle trade with Bob Jackson, who always had a healthy stock of Campag, and other brands...however, I wasn't aware of them until early 72, and being almost fanatical about weight saving I had to have a pair........much to the dislike of my fellow clubmates!

In those days, certainly in the Northern towns, having the 'best exotic equipment' was frowned upon.....or maybe they were jealous?.......I recall when I turnned up later in the same year [1972] with a pair of Campag brakes [no name ones!] my club mates turned quite nasty towards me....even though I'd simply bought a second hand bike with them on.

But anyway, getting back to the pedals, my year would be 1971......but perhaps someone has more info?

cheers

BlackPedals

I know the first generation Campagnolo Superleggera Black pedals have been discussed on the list in the past, but could not find anything in the archives that pinpoints their actual introduction date. I am referring to the black SL pedals that have flat non recessed or indented cage holes/slots.

Chuck Schmidt's Campy timeline mentions the silver anodized alloy SL pedal introduction date as 1968, but no mention of the first black anodized alloy caged SLs.

I have a pair of these pedals, and was thinking of mounting them on a 1969 bike, but don't know it they were available or not during 1969???

Appreciate any definitive dating of these fairly rare pedals.
