Andrew - something like 35 years experience with these brakes, never, ever, seen that happen.

Anything's possible, but trying to troubleshoot by internet is all about elimination of the most possible/likely possibilities.

Mark- In a perfect world you might be right but I've seen what the right application of vibratory force can do to an otherwise locked over center device. I watched a lock smith break out of my shop with nothing more then a

screwdriver and about 15 minutes of violent shaking and yanking on the door handle. He was sweating when the latch went "click". He mentioned with old and loose door locks this was his first method.
