As far as I know, very few if any of the bikes I restore hang on the wall. People just take care of them and ride them when practical. Most of us have multiple bikes and chose which to ride based on the situation. What would be the point in having a nice piece, be it a car, nice clothing, or a bike, if one doesn't use it? I can't afford stuff like that, and I don't think most others can either. They are meant to be enjoyed. The joy of bicycles involves riding them. Some of us may have one or two they are afraid to ride. I don't have any of those. I'm careful, but I also WANT the patina of use to begin once the restoration is complete.
I believe the notion of "wall hangers" is largely exaggerated. When my Bentley is finished and I have put in countless hours getting it as nice as possible, it's NOT going to sit it the garage so I can look at it. What is the point in that? Most of the thinking related to wall hangers has to do with people concerned about the "value" of the bike and a "return on their investment". Bikes are not good investments unless one rides them and enjoys them and provide a good home for them. You can't put a dollar value on that.
