Subject: [CR] Restoration-cost and value

The cost of repainting, rechroming and replacing decals on a frameset can easily approach $2000 if certain restorers, well known to CR
Listers, are used. The turnaround time for their work can reach several
years, even many years in some cases. Despite the cost, the quality of such
restorations is variable and often unpredictable.
Fortunately, other less well known cycle restorers can do the same or better
     work faster and cheaper.
The cost and value of such restoration work is subjective. For vintage bike
dealers the costs are critical since their desire is to make a profit,
while a true collector cares only about the quality of the work and will pay
for that regardless of what cycle is involved. Unfortunately for the true
collector, however, high cost of restoration doesn't always translate into
     a high value result.
As for the meaning of "over restoration", this will be tough to define,
since there is no consensus about what constitutes restoration itself.
