Hi all,
I recently acquired a Cecil Walker track bike which, to the best of my knowledge, is from 1945. Beyond the serial number dating the bike, I have very little information about the construction of the frame, original equipment that was on it, etc. The Cecil Walker shop here in Melbourne is still going and told me that the last two digits of the serial are the year of manufacture. It came out of a shed with some wheels that weren't mounted (pictured on the bike on the Flickr link), which are Bayliss Wiley hubs laced to Clement tubular rims. The seat pin and clamp and seat came on the bike with the Cinelli stem and ? bars. The bars seem to have no stamping, and the stem has a badge which is not on it in the pics. Any information about the builder of the frame or any information at all would be most appreciated. I have a Williams crankset and some Harden hubs which I plan to build new wheels with...I will keep the ones I have as period correct(-ish) tubulars and get some tires for them eventually. Any recommendations for new clinchers and hooked rims so that I might ride some modern tires on the street here? Any ideas about the lugs or construction which might contradict the dating? Anyone know what the bars might be? Thanks for the collective knowledge!
