Joe,
The Universal brakes you describe sound like their AER model. I have a pair mounted on my Colnago Equilateral, and a photo example can be viewed at the following Wool Jersey address:

Your hood offer sounds like a great deal to me!

#yiv80270542 p {margin:0;}I have these same levers but the calipers have an odd eccentric mechanism to mount the brake blocks. I think the ones I have are the end of the line for Universal and date from the early 1980's when these stupid eccentric adjusters were the fad. So my guess for these is 1980.
If anyone would like new brake hoods in the package for these levers I have some in white $20 shipped.

I have a set of Universal "Squadra" sidepull brakes and am curious if anyone knows their date of introduction? They have nutted non-recessed mounting bolts, so this kind of threw me a curve in estimating a date.
Dale has photos of an identical on his CR site:

Appreciate any help that can be provided.
