My local post office seems to be quite diligent in sorting out "correct" sizes when presented. I always check the web site for shipping information and if total combined size is <108" l+g, I just won't bother as it is too much effort. I have informed several Australian potential buyer of frames &/or complete bicycles, that the size limitations make it too difficult to comply.
I never even present a package that I know might be rejected by the USPS. As I mentioned, my local P.O. is quite good with their efforts.
