NOS does not necessarily mean that an item is shiny and perfectly clean, it depends how it has been stored. It just means that an item has never been used or set up on a bike.

In this case there were a load of bike items that had been stored on damp a nd dusty shelves, some still in wrapping and boxes, some not, the unsold st ock of a  shop that shut down decades ago,  but although some parts are dirty, they are indeed NOS.

Check out items 360140669955 or 370176318071, do we contest the fact they a re NOS because there is dust and grease on them? Top bidders don't seem to think so.

The rubber grips of the bar-end shifters still have the molding edge on the m that would be worn if they had had any use.
