Kurt, Yes, the OMAS headset used 1/8" bearings, but if memory serves me correctly , they were supplied with nylon raced bearing vs. loose balls from the fact ory. 29 or 30 count sounds about right for loose balls. Just make sure the lo ose balls are not shifting out of place when installing the fork - it sound s like this may be the problem you are encountering when attempting to adju st your headset (i.e., bearings move and stack on top of one another).
