My Father, bless him, used to drive his 1928 4 1/2 litre Bentley around the
quiet roads of Cheshire and North Wales in the 1960's. He restored from
1959 to 1962. We used to encounter lots of cyclists on club runs and Father
was most dismissive, saying ''Look at those silly buggers riding split-arsed
down the road, getting in my bloody way''
Sorry if this offends but not all vintage car drivers were ever that fond
of cyclists. Perhaps this exposure caused my affection for cycling as a form
of paternal rebellion. It sat dormant for many years.
