Hi,
I am making a new run of replacement barrel adjusters for people missing the adjusters for their 70's and 80's brake sets. Here are the terms for purchase of this product.
1. Description of the product :
http://www.ece.ubc.ca/
These look great from 1' away but close-up these home-made pieces are not quite the same as original N.R. Adjusters - more details are on the web page.
2. Cost of the product :
It takes me about an hour to make each adjuster, i use a Dremel cutoff wheel to remove the top of a chorus adjuster, then I grind down the adjuster head for the correct profile, the sand with a dremel flap-wheel, sand (300, 600, 1000, 2000 grit), polish, and finally brush plate it with my brush plating set. I also have to ream out the adjuster to accept a ferrule. To make 10 adjusters take several cutoff wheels, a flap wheel, several (maybe 2-4) full sheets of sandpaper, etc.
The inputs to this process are roughly $7 (maybe $6 for the adjuster and $1 of materials used to make each adjuster), and for this hour of work I charge $12/total per adjuster. S/H/Paypal is $1.50 (up to 4x adjusters, add $0.40/ea for more than 4x), or $1.00 if you mail a check.
3. Is there another source?
I don't know of another source but if someone finds one, please let me know because then I can retire!
Retailers on ebay charge $9-$14 for a single un-modified chorus adjuster, I get mine from the cheapest online source (www.airbomb.com) and drive out there to avoid their exhorbitant shipping charges.
I also have some experience (I have made 10x of these in the past.)
4. How long does it take ?
I am going to order new input materials at the end of this week, so the raw material will arrive next week. If you want one, please contact me right away. If you ask this week, delivery time should be 3 weeks from this friday, roughly April 25th.
I don't know if I'll make another run in 2009.
Thanx,
