Hello listmembers,I have had 2 Colnago`s from the late 70s about 1978ish era
pre crimped tubing and sloping fork crown, one was a Mexico as per the label
on the chain stay the other a Super as per the chainstay decal, both
identical to look at ,both had the same Columbus tube decal and were
actually the same colour, all original paint decals etc,BUT the Mexico was
clearly the lighter out of the 2 as is the common consensus about the 2
models,as for the top tube cable guides it is my belief that Colnago only
ever had 2 on the top ,from having a few in my possesion and knowing a few
big Colnago collectors especially Greg Softley and his nice collection also
from observing the many Colnago catalouges, but the 3 guides could also be
the exception with special custom orders, hope this helps
Cheers

I believe Supers had the inside of the chainstays crimped, while the Mexico s did not, at least the in the 70s.
And I agree that from the time Colnago started using braze-on top tube ca ble guides (1975-ish ?), there were only two regardless of the model.

In my experience all the Colnagos have 2 cable guides and not three.
If memory serves, the only visual difference between a Super and a Mexico was the "mexico" label on the chainstay. I have a BikeCology ad showi ng the two, from '78, I'll dig it out and post it.
When I see a Colnago with 3 cable guides, I figure additional forces were a t work there.
