I'm in complete agreement with Lou Deeter's post. I've got a stable of 70's and 80's retros that I ride regularly. Every one gets road time; no living room sculptures allowed. That said, all are fitted with Look pedals (& I've got a box of Record/Super Record/Triumph pedals with toeclips stashed away).
I am prone to developing bone spurs on the outside of my feet, exactly where the toeclip straps hit. I well remember back in the mid-80's, at mile 80 of a century ride, my feet strapped into the pedals and screaming in agony. I recall thinking: "You know, 150 bucks for new shoes, 150 bucks for those new clipless pedals, 300 bucks- that sounds reasonable!
After that ride, I got a new pair of Sidi's. a set of Dura-Ace Look pedals (which I still use on one of my bikes) and have never looked back. Yeah, retro is cool, but I've gotta be comfortable.
