I find performance and comfort very important when it comes to my bikes. Only 2 of my 16 bikes are On Topic due to manufactured date but 3 others are KOF bikes. The '83 Guerciotti has silk tubulars (1 set rode once and the 2nd set never used). I will not ride 25 yr. old tires. Also will not use the Cinelli leather helmet. As for shorts I have been a Assos man for 20 yrs. But several brands make very good chamois/shorts. Hard to go back to what most Period Correct chamois where like. I---like most on the list choose to be at whatever lever of Correctness we feel comfortable at. There is enough room for all the CR listers and all their different levels of Period Correct bike/cloths. Let's ride and have some fun.

Do what you darned well please with your bike. But the same arguements f or using modern pedals and shoes on a classic CR period racing bike (efficiency, comfort etc) can be used to justify replacement of EVERY single original component on the same bike from derailleur system, shifters, saddle, wheelset to the Spiderman spandex body suit you think yo u look really hot wearing. Indeed, are steel frames as "efficient" as carb on fibre?? Don't know. Or care. So it gets back to "Why do I collect and ride classic racing bikes". And if you can answer "efficiency" and "practicality", I give up entirely! You might as well collect snow shovels ..
