Subject: [CR] 1st Annual Americane' Vintage Track & Road Bike Festival

A small group of vintage cyclists in Michigan are proud to announce the 1st Annual Americane' Vintage Track & Road Bike Festival, scheduled http://www.nas-track.com/velodrome/pages/vabp-schedule.htm for the July 4th weekend this year. The event is being hosted at The International Velodrome at Bloomer Park http://www.nas-track.com/velodrome/pages/vabp-about.htm , located in Rochester Hills, MI <http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Rochester+Hills&state=MI&address=345+John +R> , which was designed and built in 2000 http://www.nas-track.com/velodrome/pages/vabp-history.htm thanks to Dale Hughes http://www.nas-track.com/bios.php of international track design fame (the Bloomer Park velodrome is designed after Dale's Atlanta Olympic Velodrome). Dale also founded the NAS-TRACK Pro Team Cycling League http://www.nas-track.com/ and has coached countless cyclists to national and international fame thru the Walden School of Cycling http://www.nas-track.com/walden_school/ as well as serving on the USCF board. Dale was also the designer and builder in 1975 of America's 1st portable velodrome which fit nicely into hockey rinks.

The event is listed on the Classic Rendezvous events calendar page http://www.classicrendezvous.com/calendar.htm (the home of thousands of fans of "Lightweight Vintage Bicycles, circa 1900-1983") and slowly getting out thru other means, but we need more help in spreading the word to folks who might be interested in attending. Here's an event page http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=148527135150 on Facebook for you to RSVP or check to see if you know anyone else planning to go. We're still working on our formal press release and an official web site for the event, but since everyone is working on their summer plans right now we saw the importance of getting this notice out, sooner than later.

Here's a rough summary of the weekend of events:

The International Velodrome at Bloomer Park, Rochester, Michigan, is proud to announce the

1st Annual Americane' Vintage Track & Road Bike Festival on July 4th and 5th, 2009

This two-day event celebrating vintage track and road bicycling coincides with three days of the highest level, most exciting track racing in the nation, the NAS-TRACK INTERNATIONAL 3 DAY http://www.nas-track.com/velodrome/pages/vabp-schedule.htm series of events at the International Velodrome at Bloomer Park http://www.nas-track.com/velodrome/pages/vabp-about.htm , located in Rochester Hills, MI <http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Rochester+Hills&state=MI&address=345+John +R> .

Both days will feature a swap meet open to individuals and vendors, and vintage bike exhibition riding. Saturday (4th) will highlight vintage track racing heritage with many exciting on-track racing events throughout the day interspersed with the NAS-TRACK INTERNATIONAL action. Sunday (5th) will highlight vintage road racing history thru a leisurely tour as well as some real racing (time-trials). For those who haven't ridden the track before (or in many years) classes will be offered Saturday morning to familiarize riders with the Bloomer Park velodrome which was designed by world-class track designer Dale Hughes, after his Atlanta Olympic Velodrome.

Multiple categories of vintage bikes will be invited covering a full century from high wheelers of the 1880's into the mid-1980s. Award categories will also include most authentic bike, clothing; best race heritage; longest distance ridden to the event; loveliest bike(s) and so on.

Saturday night will feature a special outdoor screening of the new documentary movie, "Catch the Wind http://web.mac.com/rnoiret/iWeb/TheEndlessRoad/CATCH%20THE%20WIND.html " along with other vintage bike related movies and slideshows.

Special guests expected to attend include some of the great American track and road racers from days gone by (TBA) who will be invited to join everyone in the track and road events. Displays of historically significant and collectible bikes are expected to be everywhere.

Donations of old bikes collecting dust in garages/ basements will be much appreciated with a portion of proceeds going to community bike programs.

Please visit our event page http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=148527135150 on Facebook to RSVP and get updates or to upload your own vintage track/ road photos/ videos for others to enjoy.

The event volunteers would appreciate any feedback/ suggestions as we develop the events especially the various award categories.

Thank you all for considering attending this event. Tim
