Looking at pics of the late fifties Giro and seeing bottles on the frame and also on the bars.
What was the primary placement for the water bottle cage at that time? Would it have been normal to have the primary bottle placed on the bars? Or was that a secondary placement for when you needed to carry two bottles? Or was it the other way around? Understood that this is clearly subjective and up to the rider, but just curious about what would have been convention at the time...
Further - had aluminum bottles with corks all but gone by the end of the fifties? I'm seeing a lot of plastic modern looking bottles in the photos...
