I don't consider myself an expert on Universal brakes, but I just received a bike w/ one front Universal Extra caliper w/ Brev. 543949 on the opposite side. It's got a quick release and is around a 500 size. It's on a sixties Frejus track bike that happens to be drilled for brakes front and rear. I'd like to find a mate and have been searching for Universal calipers on the bay, but only found the Super 68's which were described as sixties brakes, item #400043543842, now sold w/ BIN.
There's a Universal sidepull caliper set I got NOS about two years ago from a seller in Cyprus that was a longer reach and no quick release that I've been pleased with. His buy it now was quite reasonable and he had a number of sets. That seller often has quite a bit of stuff on e-bay. I believe his e-bay name is cyord.
Thanks to all who offered advice to me about the Frejus track bike I just received. It's approximately a 1964 frame and the clincher set of wheels came with a fixed/free hub currently w/ two freewheels, and is why I'm looking for a second caliper. It turns out to have already been on Dale's CR serial number index. If anyone has a 26.8 seatpost with a fair amount of setback to it, I'm looking for one of those too.
