Greg - there are a couple different types of Scott / Matthauser brake pads, but beware - the earliest type which had a finned aluminum plate to which the (red) pad was epoxied - should not be used! The epoxy on these items is now ~20 years old and when subjected to heat (from braking) the pad will just fall off. If this happens to you on a down hill you are on a voyage of discovery to say the least.
There was a later type that had a black mount and I believe these had a more conventional slide - in pad configuration, they should be safe to use but I am not sure if replacement pads can be found.
The current type is of course pad only, which will slide into a standard brake pad mount provided by Campy, Mafac, or other manufacturer. The red (salmon as we call it here in the PacNW) pad compound has an excellent reputation for solid stopping in wet or dry conditions.
