Universal is a brand name just like Campy or Mafac. There were 2 different drop distances for the cross bridge that the arms pivot on. If you'll look at the front and rear brakes together, you'll notice the arms were the same, but, the bridge is deeper for the rear. I 1st saw this in 1972 on my 1st Bott. Giro, which was 2nd in line from the Professional. I never knew about any other center pulls besides this set. But, this can be proved otherwise. As we find out more and more, we realize we will never know everything that Europe sent over to the USA during the boom of the 70s. The bridges can be swapped around from one set-up to another using 2 longs, 2 shorts or a mix. In the 60s-70s lots of Euro bikes had closer fronts then rears. The good thing is ,you may only need one brake ,or bridge, or you may have enough in your stash now to fix the difference. Dickey Greer West Monroe,La USA
I need a set of Universal generic center-pulls with?that long reach both
front and rear. They would probably come from a lower end bike that was des igned to handle fenders rather than a racing bike.
