Finally getting around to building an Alberto-made 80's Masi Prestige frameset I bought from Lou Deeter in 2007. This is red with yellow decals. I know, I know, I'm not famous for my love of Italian bikes, but I really do like them, I just don't share the opinion of some that some one Italian marque is the "only" bike worth having.
This frame was very cheap because of a mysterious "bulge" in the downtube just behind the headtube. I guess many prospective buyers were afraid this indicated a frontal impact, but there is absolutely no other evidence of a crash. I actually love frames like this, top quality frames with some minor dent or such which has no impact on structural integrity, but greatly reduces the price. I got a great deal on a Cuevas with a small dent in the toptube, among several others.
I've decided to build this up somewhat similar to the 50th Anniversaty Paramount I posted pics of a year or so ago. Like the Paramount, the Masi is red, so I am using gold components as I did on the Schwinn. I like building Italian bikes with all Italian components, but no Campy, just to demonstrate that there were other quality Italian components besides Campy. So far I have fitted gold anodized Galli cranks with black rings, gold Galli RD and shifters, and black Rino platform pedals.
Anyone have a gold colored headset for sale? Italian-made preferred. Italian or English thread. I will buy outright, or I have an NIP gold anodized French thread Edco HS I will trade.
