This chromophobe (not really) would advise Simichrome or similar polish. It has about as much of an abrasive as I would readily consider using, plus really brightens chrome, which may blind out your unwanted Spreck's.

I once used Simichrome on a "hopeless", dumpstered, fully chromed (under partial paint) Windsor Pro that had spent many years out in the elements. It actually looks good now.

I apply Simichrome to the aged stays of my Raleigh Pro once a year as upkeep, it makes a huge difference, tho there may not be much chrome left on the nickel-plate on this one.
