It is pretty well accepted that both Merckx and Simpsons rode Masis, at least on occasion. By alleged, I only meant I don't have first hand knowledge, nor do I know the details of the frames or if they used them constantly or only in certain events.

\r?\n> I wouldn't say that Merckx "allegedly" rode a

\r?\n> Masi painted as a Peugeot. I specifically recall a picture

\r?\n> (that of course I cannot now find) of Merckx and Simpson in

\r?\n> a two-up breakaway during the 1967 Paris-Nice stage race

\r?\n> (last stage I believe)?taken from behind that clearly shows

\r?\n> Merckx's "Peugeot" with the Masi world

\r?\n> championship bands on the seat-tube. If I recall correctly

\r?\n> you can even read "Masi" but may be hallucinating

\r?\n> more than usual on that! :-) Picture has always stuck in my

\r?\n> mind because that was one of the first instances where?I was

\r?\n> aware?that a racer might be riding something other than what

\r?\n> it says it was.

\r?\n> OK, folks, I know many of you have me pegged as an

\r?\n> irredeemable Francophile, or

\r?\n> maybe occasional Anglophile, but attached is the link to

\r?\n> the early 80's

\r?\n> Alberto-built Masi Prestige I finally got built up after

\r?\n> buying the frame from

\r?\n> As I like to do, just to show Campy wasn't the only

\r?\n> component manufacturer in

\r?\n> Italy, I've built it up almost entirely Italian but

\r?\n> with almost no Campy. A

\r?\n> prize for anyone who can identify the one or two tiny Campy

\r?\n> bits. Mostly Galli

\r?\n> - cranks, hubs, brakes, RD, shift levers, much of it gold

\r?\n> anodized. But also

\r?\n> some Gipiemme, Ofmega, Rino, Regina, Modolo (hoods),

\r?\n> Ambrosio, Cinelli, Selle

\r?\n> Turbo and Cobra. Still looking for an appropriate gold

\r?\n> colored HS.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> I've said I'd like to buy a Masi with really

\r?\n> trashed paint and have it repainted

\r?\n> as a Peugeot like those allegedly ridden by Merckx and

\r?\n> Simpson when they were on

\r?\n> the Peugeot team. But this frame was much too nice for

\r?\n> that fate.
