[CR] John Bull toeclips

Hello list, after swearing off ebay a month ago, I purchased a Sunbeam about a week ago. It arrived today and is really exceptional! Something I haven't run across before is the John Bull toeclips it has on it. Rather than a slot for a strap there is just a round hole in the top portion of the clip. See pic 12 on ebay item number 110378426515. Can anyone tell me how to attach a strap to this?
