I certainly can't add any hard data that Robert Broderick posted, great information! What I wanted to add, and ask others on the list if they concur, is that Avocet seemed to precede release of their products advertised sometimes for more than a year. There would be lots of hype in the magazines and even working in or hanging out in bike shops in the Maryland area, I never really saw much of the components other than at the New York show. Saddles, computers and later, tires were everywhere, but I've only seen one or two of the Avocet triple cranksets, even though I managed to get an Avocet granny to go with my Campy 74 mm bolt circle conversion.
I really like a some of the stuff Avocet makes/made, and am using their tires and computers still, though I can't seem to bring myself to put the all black tires on a bike yet. It's a shame that they seem to be doing nothing to keep themselves in business.
Happy trails,

When did the Avocet name first appear? Anyone remember exactly?
