"When you want to ride your old bike with clips and straps... what to do for shoes and cleats?

I've come across a substitute for a cleat on new generation shoes; http://www.yellowjersey.org/tocleat.html.

But, what are the Velcro closures like getting in and out of toe clips and straps? Any wisdom that could be shared would be most appreciated."

hi John,

I'm fortunate to have a few pairs of vintage shoes to use when I ride my CR era bikes. I also use clips 'n straps for less vintage bikes, and have used modified Look cleats with Shimano shoes that have minimal velcro straps.

I did see a Shimano shoe model that looked ideal for use with clips 'n straps. The R062 uses laces combined with a single velcro strap that is at the top of the shoe. This means that there is nothing to interfere with the strap. Should be ideal! Heck, they are all black too, so they even look pretty appropriate. The only problem for those of us in the States is that it appears to only be available in the UK & Europe (and maybe elsewhere). Check the usual UK catalogs & mailorder houses. I see that ProBikeKit has them on sale for 54 pounds. Not too bad at all, really.
